It's a good idea to have consultations for your baby between one week and ten days after birth and then once a month until they're about four months old.

At six months, a check-up is necessary for a growth assessment, and then again at nine months, one year, 15 months, 18 months, and finally at two years.

Dr Smit will evaluate your little darling's health and growth to ensure they have what they need to thrive, strong and smiling!

Monitoring your baby's development and growth is vital. We screen to assess physical and psycho-social development, checking to see if your child is growing appropriately according to their age.

Milestones like sitting, standing, crawling, walking, talking, and motor control are tested, as well as vision and hearing.

Tummy problems or nervous system disorders can result in issues at feeding times. If your baby's struggling with eating and drinking or maintaining the right weight for their age, Dr Smit can help get your little one back on track to make feeding a safe, easy, and happy experience for you and your baby.

Dr Smit can do specialist referrals should you need a breast ultrasound. An ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive imaging process that uses sound waves to create pictures of the inside of the breast. It's used to help diagnose lumps or other abnormalities in the breasts.

Scheduling routine vaccinations can prevent your baby from contracting preventable and life-threatening illnesses. These days, vaccines are safe and effective.

See Dr Smit to make vaccinating your baby a smooth experience - hopefully without tears!

New Mama Consultations

Having a child is a beautiful and exciting thing! Giving birth, however, can come with some complications. Dr Smit can help you with issues new moms often struggle with, like making sure you're eating right after birth, working with less sleep, boosting energy levels, and the ins and outs of learning to be a mama.

At this consultation, Dr Smit will examine all your bodily systems. You'll also discuss any medical concerns you may have after giving birth. Dr Smit will guide you through some common postnatal problems like:

  • Vaginal discharge, pain, or pain in the perineum or C-section scar
  • Mastitis and swollen breasts
  • Excretory issues like constipation or haemorrhoids, or incontinence
  • Stretch marks
  • Hair loss
  • Discomfort during sex
  • Trouble losing pregnancy weight

Dr Smit will also provide you with the following:

  • Helpful advice on lactation and breastfeeding
  • Advice on baby blues and postpartum depression
  • How to check your breasts yourself
  • Blood tests
  • Urinalysis
  • Weight, BMI, body fat, blood pressure, and blood sugar measurements
  • A cervical smear and internal examination are also available upon request

Prenatal Consultations

At the Prenatal Consultation, Dr Smit will take you through what you can expect when you're expecting. She'll cover those little worries (and the big ones!) that all new moms and dads may be concerned about, like general health, fertility, what kind of diet is appropriate, and whether it's necessary to consider genetic factors that may affect your baby.

This medical consultation also includes:

  • A detailed examination of all bodily systems
  • Blood tests
  • Urinalysis
